About the Knights of Columbus

Founded by Father Michael J. McGivney in 1882, the Knights of Columbus was formed to render financial aid to members and their families. Mutual aid and assistance are offered to sick, disabled and needy members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief works. The Order has helped families obtain economic security and stability through its life insurance, annuity and long-term care programs, and has contributed time and energy worldwide to service in communities.

Today we are looking for the next generation of Knights. Men of character and conviction who are driven by their faith and conscience to selflessly serve their families, Church and communities. Men who are ready to be Knights.

Our Council

Founded in November 1950, Our Lady of Victory Council #3358 started with 64 members in a small building belonging to Saint Martha's Catholic Church. Since 1978 our home is our large Council Hall located at 4880 Fruitville Road. Our Council Hall is also available for rental to host your special occasions. We support the needs of Saint Martha's Catholic Church located at 200 N. Orange Ave.

It is through five key areas of service - faith, community, family, youth, and fellowship - that the Knights of Our Lady of Victory Council truly make a difference and receive their greatest and most personal rewards.

Faith
- Our Lady of Victory council Knights are very active in the Saint Martha's Parish. They serve as Eucharistic Ministers, Ushers, RCIA Leaders and various other ministries. We organize family prayer adoration to the Blessed Sacrament, and we conduct a monthly Rosary at Council Hall. Our Council also provides financial support to seminarians in the Diocese of Venice.

Community - Our Council is actively involved in many community functions. We support pro-life communities in Sarasota, which includes praying the Rosary publically at the Sarasota abortion clinic.

On Thanksgiving Day, we open our doors to provide 600 hot meals to the homeless, the homebound and the lonely. In addition, we raise and contribute funds for the three Saint Vincent DePaul Societies, who feed the hungry on a continuing basis.

Every February, our 'Annual Tootsie Roll Drive' raises funds to support four handicap-related organizations in Sarasota. Each year, we raise about $12,000. In March, we operate Ed Smith Stadium concession stands during the Baseball Spring Training games, which we have done for over twenty years. The $35,000 we earn supports our charitable activities.

Family - Our Council is family oriented. We have family picnics on Memorial and Labor Days. On the first Friday of each month, we host a Family Dinner. We have an Easter Egg Roll and Christmas Party for the children.

Youth - For our youth, we sponsor an 'Annual Spelling Bee', conduct an 'Annual Basketball Free Throw' and award scholarships to students at Saint Martha School and Cardinal Mooney High School.

Fellowship - We also have some fun. Our socials include our annual Saint Valentine's, Saint Patrick's, and Christmas Dinner/Dances.

There are many opportunities to become involved in fun activities which support good causes. You can decide to commit to one event a year, per month or per week. Whatever you choose, you can be sure that you are doing something worthwhile to support those who need our help.

We are men of faith. Guided not only by our belief in God and the Catholic Church, but also our belief in each other, and in ourselves.
